Kearns
lands a lunker
Not just another fish tale
Catfish Kearns” is
what they’re calling him.
After landing an
eight-pound catfish, which now graces the wall of his Avenues
residence, Jim Kearns certainly has a fish tale to tell. On a recent
trip to Wisconsin with his family, Jim decided to try his hand at
fishing. He was not sure what to expect after he baited his hook and
began the wait. Before he knew it, he was reeling in a keeper.
Jim and his family
were so thrilled with the catch they decided to have the fish
mounted as a lasting memento of a great summer vacation.

More than 3,800 Special Olympics athletes from around the state
including 14 from Avenues, competed in the Summer Games held June
13-15 at Illinois State University in Normal, IL.
Avenues residents
participated in several events and took home 12 medals. Accompanied
by staff, the athletes made the most of their long weekend downstate
and attended the opening ceremonies and a dinner dance reception on
Saturday night.
According to medalist
Bill Rogers (right), “I’ve been competing for 23 years now, and I’m
proud of every one of my medals.”

House and the Clifton Apartments in Park Ridge.

BINGO!
What
better way to enjoy the camaraderie of friends than playing bingo
and relaxing at the Crossroads Café? T
The
Spring get-together was just one of the numerous social events
planned throughout the year. Crossroads is located in the Jane and
Albert Wohlers Center in Park Ridge and provides a central location
for program participants from several of the Avenues sites to meet
up with one another and enjoy a night out.
The evening included
refreshments, several games of bingo and music.
